The First Time Setup

The first thing you should do is setup your equipment based on this photo.

1. Variac.

2. MOT.

3. Electrode Array and batch container.

4. Variac Cooler.

5. Air Pump.

The MOT should come with all the leads ready to connect to the Variac (1) and the Electrode Array (3)

The Variac (1) should connect to the MOT (2) using the thick black and red wires.  No special polarity should be considered as the entire system is AC.

The Gold wires are connected to the MOT (2) by a wire block and have quick disconnects to plug in the actual electrode array connectors. (the little orange wires.)

That leads us to the Electrode Array (3)

This is the first thing you need to look at in order to understand the physical setup for the electrode array.

This is just a basic introduction to provide you with an initial layout of the system.

The Electrode Array is designed to hold two electrode holders (below the water line) and enable you to make adjustments to the distance between them during the process while being accurate and easy to fit various containers.

The right side shows the two static brass holders that lock onto the lip of the beaker and the left hand side shows the two clamps that are easy to adjust to hold the entire array securely on the beaker.

This array will fit any beaker up to 8 inches in diameter.

Notice the compression band in white, with the brass post that enables easy removal and replacement.  It is required to remove this when you re-set your electrode wires.  (more on that in the instruction page)

The two electrode connectors with orange wires are designed to leave the top of the electrode holders open so that the long gold wires can protrude through the top of the electrode holder without obstruction.

I'll be working more on this entire Manual for the Gold Plasma System but for the moment I think this is enough to understand the basic setup.
